"Sustainable Community Connections"




A series of workshops are being conducted during the 6-month ALF funded project to establish a Mediterranean sustainable communities connection project. The aim is to exchange best practices and knowledge concerning the development of sustainable economic development models that can be implemented among the participating local communities. In this context collaboration on research is required and has been pursued


The specific objectives include:

  • The development of Mediterranean-centered, innovative approaches to sustainable community development by defining parameters constituting sustainable community development of relevance to the network communities to expressly promote social, economic, youth and gender equity, and environmental justice outcomes;
  • Identification of specific economic and social needs and alternative solutions through the direct participation of rural communities in project formulation to foster community empowerment;
  • Evaluation of alternative strategies and economic actions through collaborate partnerships;
  • Plan development for inter-community cooperative economic enterprises, including strategies for project financing, organization, value added production, market penetration, and implementation.
  • The maturation of the Thematic Sustainable Community Connections Network to support the long term guidance, advocacy, and implementation of cooperative economic projects.
