The research that we conduct has started with the first group of students representing various american universities. Our focus area is the village of Farsa, where physical research has been the first part of our on site activities. More precisely students carried out measurements during their weekly visits to the village, in order to depict the current situation that prevails in the village. Buildings and open spaces were identified, measured and depicted on paper. In the end they were able to correlate the actual situation they identified on the site with maps and aerial pictures.
The research that is an ongoing process doesn't stop there. Every year student groups are engaged in the same process, focusing on different aspect of the planning process, to advance the knowledge and the picture that we have for the village.
Their project, ideas and suggestions become property of the village and its their contribution to the local community, assisting them to come up with a plan for a potential redevelopment of the old Farsa village.
This first group of student actually inaugurated the research that has so far carried out by 4 groups. Starting with the basemaps, they presented the 5 different neighborhoods that the students focused their plans. (Each neighborhood is presented by a different color)
Following you can find some examples of the detailed work that the third group of students did, in the fall 2006
Some of the designs that the students in fall 2006 term
submitted for the future of the village of Farsa

Currently, the students are focusing on trasnportation issues, identifying potential routes to access the village by all possible means of transportation. In the same time they are analysing social spaces, such as squares (plateia), paths and green spaces.
